Nestled in the heart of Chanhassen, this 1978-built home is a striking example of Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Prairie-style architecture. This architectural style emphasizes horizontal lines, as well as the natural use of materials like wood, stone, and built in furniture.
There is also a plethora of triangle shapes in this home which Frank Lloyd-Wright (FLW) was known for incorporating into his designs. The triangle represents a strong load bearing shape, and he used that to create unity, stability, and visual interest in the design of the home.
The architecture and style of the home played a huge role in the remodeled areas that we worked on. It was important to stay to true to the character of the home when considering the designs for the office, closet, and bathroom.
In the office and closet, storage was a top priority. The New Spaces team collaborated with a semi-custom cabinetmaker to create built-in cabinetry that reflected the home’s original materials—specifically natural oak wood—and fit seamlessly into the existing space. With tight clearances and distinctive angles throughout, every cabinet had to be carefully designed and skillfully installed. Even the cabinet hardware was thoughtfully selected to complement the home’s period-specific aesthetic and craftsmanship.
This remodel is a true celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s influence—bringing functionality and beauty to modern living, while carefully preserving the architectural soul of this remarkable home.
