Nestled in the heart of Chanhassen, this 1978-built home is a striking example of Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Prairie-style architecture. This architectural style emphasizes horizontal lines, as well as the natural use of materials like wood, stone, and built in furniture.
There is also a plethora of triangle shapes in this home which Frank Lloyd-Wright (FLW) was known for incorporating into his designs. The triangle represents a strong load bearing shape, and he used that to create unity, stability, and visual interest in the design of the home.
The architecture and style of the home played a huge role in the remodeled areas that we worked on. It was important to stay to true to the character of the home when considering the designs for the office, closet, and bathroom.
The bathroom has a triangle shaped footprint which made it challenging to both design and work in. We stayed true to the geometry and installed a semi-custom vanity to fit within one corner of the triangle. We also incorporated a custom handmade tile triangle mosaic on the vanity countertop and within a wall niche. The homeowner is very artistic and creative, so it was important to find the right tile and colors to incorporate into the design.
To preserve authenticity, we surgically cut and replaced existing natural stone on the floors and walls—sourcing matching materials to maintain the continuity and integrity of the original design.
This remodel is a true celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s influence—bringing functionality and beauty to modern living, while carefully preserving the architectural soul of this remarkable home.
