90s kitchen makeover in Savage, MN
Doug and Connie built their split entry home in a quiet neighborhood in Savage in 1991. With the kids grown and gone, they wanted to update the kitchen and flooring on the main level of their home. They plan to stay and enjoy their empty nest for another 10 years! After meeting with us and hearing about our design-build process they decided to work with the New Spaces team to remodel their space.
After considering several alternatives, the couple decided to keep the U-shaped layout – with the sink, refrigeratorand range forming a “work triangle.” The dated vinyl floor showed every speck of dirt! It was replaced with solid oak flooring. The 3-inch wide plank with a wheat finish has classic style and natural warmth.
The all wood construction maple cabinets from Starmark are built to last and covered by a limited lifetime warranty. The drawers and roll-trays extend fully, and the glides are underneath for a cleaner look. Because the glides are underneath, the drawers can be as wide as possible, giving them more room and more organizational options. The self-closing drawers are built from 3/4-inch hardwood with dovetail joinery. Starmark finishing includes hand sanding and finishing and curing in an industrial ovens for a durable finish.
The countertops, lighting and appliances were also replaced. Granite countertops in venetian gold are complemented by classic 3 x 6 ceramic tile in buff with glass mosaic accent. The under cabinet lighting and Kohler Executive Chef™ undermount sink make cooking and cleanup easier and more enjoyable.
The couple also updated the flooring in the living room, dining room, hall, and front entry to give the entire main floor a fresh, updated look.
